Football players of the Croatian team decided to boycott
World Cup media after the photos of them swimming naked in the hotel
pool were widely publicized.
The incident involved two paparazzi, who were hiding in bushes to picture the naked footballers.
The scandalous photos feature the 24-year-old Dejan Lovern (Southampton) and the 28-year-old Vedran Corluka (Lokomotiv Moscow).
Briefing journalists about the boycott, the team coach Niko Kovac, was quoted saying by BBC:
"How
would you feel if someone took naked pictures of you? They are adamant
that they won't speak to you lot any more. I don't know whether the
silence will end tomorrow or last until the end of our World Cup
campaign."
Kovac added that he respected his players and their decision not to communicated with media
The
opening game for Croatia also could not be characterized as a
successful one, as the team lost 3-1 in the match against Mundial hosts
Brazil. The next group game Kovac's men will play on Wednesday, June 18,
against Cameroon.
