Ms Sahhara says if she wins, her legacy would be to campaign for the acceptance of transgenders
"I will do all my best to teach people more about transgender issues, who we are and where we come from because there is this huge misconception around the issues that surrounds transgender people. We are not to be afraid of. We are not immoral. We are human beings, we have blood running in our vein and we pray you give us the chance and understanding and love that you give your fellow human beings because we are one of you" she said. Boko Haram member speaks with BBC, says only prisoner exchange can secure the girls release

A man who described himself as a teacher/scholar inside the Boko Haram camp today July 8th spoke anonymously with Tobi Oladipo of BBC World radio service where he stated that it's only the release of their imprisoned members by the Federal Government that can make them release the over 200 Chibok girls they abducted on April 14th at the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok.
"Yes we want the Nigerian government to release our members. As our leader Abubakar Shekau promised to the media, if today the government releases our members, tomorrow or the next day we promise you can see all of them (the girls) sure. We would release them tomorrow or the next day." he told BBC World Radio. Continue...
Seaking further, the man said the abducted girls are in good condition and are well catered for
"I am telling you a fact, they are in a state of amnesty. They don't have a problem. Some of them have belief in Islam, some of them say they would not convert to Islam but we didn't differentiate them, we treat them equally. They are healthy, feeding and all these. We didn't differentiate between them at all, why because, Allah commands us to do them equally. Some of them say they would not come back to Islam, we ask them to stay, no problem. There is no forcing in Islam but some of them not Muslims are converting to Islam but we are not differentiating them. If you see them now, you would see they don't have any problem"he said
The man also said Boko Haram attacks anyone who gives out information about them and their activities
"Under Islam, killing children and women is not accepted you understand, but if they are fighting you, then you must fight them but if they are not fighting you, then it is not accepted weather they are Muslims or non-Muslims. Do not fight them, it is not accepted but if you bomb somewhere or make arrest somewhere, it will affect them but killing children and women is not accepted" he said

70 Boko Haram Insurgents Killed By Nigerian Troops In Borno Air Raid

The Nigerian army has killed no fewer than 70 suspected Boko Haram members, who participated in separate attacks on Chuha I, Chuha II and Korogilim villages of Chibok local governmnet area, Borno State over the weekend.
Boko Haram & soldiers
Boko Haram insurgents and Nigerian soldiers
They were killed on Sunday, in an air raid with support from ground troops of the 7 Division, Nigerian army as they were fleeing towards Sambisa forest after their attack on the three villages, Vanguard reports.
More than 40 people had been killed last weekend when suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked three villages in Chibok, razed down houses, shops and vehicles before carting away foodstuffs and livestock. According to one of the residents of Korogilim, Mr. Joshua Yakubu, after the attacks, the terrorists were moving in a convoy on Sunday morning, attempting to flee into Sambisa after their deadly mission and that’s when they were attacked by military operatives.
He said when they started hearing the sounds of explosion on the outskirt of the villages, they were gripped with fear but later discovered the explosions were coming from troops who were attacking the fleeing insurgents.
Joshua said he was among the courageous ones who visited the scene of the bombardment yesterday and they saw many dead bodies of the insurgents littered everywhere.
"In fact, they were more than a hundred dead bodies. The food items they looted during the attacks were scattered all over the scene. People are trooping in to see things for themselves.
"I want to inform you that we are happy with the gallant effort displayed by the military for quick intervention which led to the killing of dozens of terrorists who wreaked havoc in our communities over the weekend as almost all of them were wiped out," Joshua said.
The Director, Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, confirmed the incident yesterday in a text message which said, “Yes, it happened.”
This is coming on the heels of yesterday’s tragic incident where a suicide bomber blew himself and seven others up at Kano School of Hygiene Technology  along Gida Murtala-BUK road, leaving 20 persons life-threatening injuries.

Entertainment Industry unite for Kefee; form committee for her burial

Over 100 members of the Nigerian entertainment industry gathered on Monday in Lagos to strategise on ways and means of giving late singer, Kefee, a befitting burial.

Some of the notable faces at the meeting were, Nikki Laoye, Tosin Martins, Emem Ema, Tee-Y Mix, DJ Gosporella, Wamilele, Princess, , Perry Martins, Praise Machine, Mudi, Righteousman, Nene Soul Diva, Victor Gospogroove, Gordons and representatives from Kefee’s family. Continue...
Sammie noted that the death of Kefee has affected the Nigerian entertainment industry and the world over and not just the Gospel music community in Nigeria.
"Kefee was a major contributor to the development of entertainment in Nigeria and the industry will be there for her even in death. We are going to bury her as a queen and it would be nice for us to work together to make her burial a grand affair. It would also be nice to use this opportunity to get our acts together as Gospel artists and entertainers in general because that is what Kefee would love,’’ he said.
Also speaking, Tosin Martins, suggested that activities in honour of Kefee should extend beyond the immediate burial plans to include a more robust an annual memorial symposium and other events which promote the interests and passion of Kefee for posterity’s sake.

A committee called the ‘Kefee Memorial Committee’ (KMC) was thus constituted to plan the various events which would hold in Lagos and Sapele, the hometown of the late singer.

The members of the committee are: Sammie Okposo, Nikki Laoye, Commorade Rex Anighoro, Momodu Inu Noah, Tosin Martins, Anny Ibrahim, Joan Paul, Aity Dennis-Inyang, Emem Ema, Gbenga Akintokun, Tee-Y Mix, Tim Tehilla, DJ Gosporella, Praise Machine, Victor Gospogroove, Princess, Perry Martins, DJ Direal and journalist, Chilee Agunanna, who was Kefee’s publicist
The committee would plan towards befitting burial events in Lagos and Sapele and some of the proposed activities were a symposium and Service of Songs tagged ‘An Evening With Kefee’ in Lagos.

There would also be a documentary of the singer’s life and times; performances of her songs by other artists; Kefee memorial merchandise and a tribute concert in Sapele.
Kefee’s husband, Teddy Don-Momoh, monitored the proceedings of the meeting from the U.S. where he is preparing to fly home the body of his wife.

He once again pleaded for the privacy of the family to be respected in these trying times.
He observed that some of the stories written about Kefee since her death were mostly untrue and cited the reports of a pregnancy which didn’t exist and the story that her body had been flown home as very insensitive and mischievous.

He also stressed that some reports that claimed that he was stranded in the U.S. and soliciting for financial help through a bank account were lies.

Teddy said that, customarily, he would have to return home to Nigeria first, to be on ground to receive the body of his wife which would then follow afterwards.

He said he was finalising the required paperwork before Kefee’s body could be flown from the U.S. to Nigeria and once those were done, more details of the burial plans would be released.
Teddy said that Kefee’s family had requested that she be buried in their hometown, Okpara-Inland, Ethiope East local government, with a celebratory service in Sapele afterwards and that he was comfortable with that.

Those, according to him, were the only definite arrangements for his wife’s burial so far.
Kefee whose real name was Irikefe Don-Momoh (nee Obareki) was a well-liked Pop-Gospel artist who had been active in the entertainment industry for the past ten years. She was born on Feb. 5, 1980 in Sapele, Delta State and was known as the Branama Queen, in reference to her debut hit track and album, ‘Branama’. She also scored a hit with the track, ‘Kokoroko’, featuring Timaya and had four albums to her credit— ‘Branama’ (2003), ‘Branama 2’ (2005), ‘A Piece of Me’ (2009) and ‘Chorus Leader’ in 2013.

A Condolence Register has been opened for the singer at her restaurant, Branama Kitchen, at 11 Ajose Str., Mende, Maryland, Lagos.

Signed,

Speaking with punch Yesterday, Mr. Uwujaren said Fayose's election has not affected his ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, for alleged corruption.

As you know, immunity from prosecution applies only to the President, the Vice President, sitting governors and their deputies.”

Baraje Urges FG To Accept Boko Haram Swap Option

Kawu Baraje, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Sunday, told the federal government to accept the swap deal offered by members of the radical Islamist sect Boko Haram.
Abducted Chibok girls in a recent video
Abducted Chibok girls in a recent video
Speaking to journalist at the graduation ceremony of Baraje Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies in llorin, Kwara State capital noted that, no sacrifice would be too much to secure the release of the abducted school girls, and insisted that the federal government should consider the swap option.
"If the United States of America swapped five prisoners to secure the life of an America soldier, it will not be too much for the Federal Government to negotiate and meet the sect’s condition for the release of the abducted girls" he said. "Whatever kind of appeasement that will appease the people that are holding these girls should be done, whether negotiation, whether transition, we saw America do it. Just for one person America released five insurgents".
According to him, Nigeria was in a dire situation following the current security challenges. He stated that not until the girls are released, Nigerians would not believe the efforts made by the Federal Government in securing their release.
Baraje, however, revealed that efforts were on to affiliate the Islamiya school with Al-Ansur University in Saudi Arabia in order to provide opportunities for higher education.

It would be recalled that over 234 school girls were kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok Borno State by the Boko Haram sect on April 14. The sect, however, offered to swap the girls for the release of their detained brethren, an option the federal government had earlier agreed to, and invited the only Nigerian journalist/civilian, Ahmad Salkida, who reportedly has access to Boko Haram to act as negotiator between them and the Islamist.

Recently the Ijaw National Congress, INC, described the Islamist as murderers, and argued that agreeing to swap their brethren for the abducted girls would show bad precedence for the country, noting that instead of swapping, Government should explore other means of ensuring the girls rescue.

However, the fate of the abducted Chibok girls seems to rest in the hands of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) recently pleaded with the federal government to allow negotiate with Boko Haram leaders in a bid to free the girls.

Shehu Of Borno Reveals Why Monarchs Are Boko Haram Targets

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar El-Kanemi, said on Sunday that northern traditional rulers had become the target of Boko Haram because they have been cooperating with security agents to fight terrorism in the Northeast.
Boko Haram sect
The dreaded Boko Haram sect
According to him, 14, out of 59 district heads in his kingdom, had been killed by the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, PUNCH reports.
El-Kanemi who is the Chancellor of the Niger Delta University, disclosed this while speaking in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, when he visited Governor Seriake Dickson, a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said.
Condemning the insurgents attack, the Shehu said it was wrong for them to claim that they were fighting an Islamic cause.
"It is wrong to force somebody to convert. There is nowhere in the Bible or Q’uran that we are asked to use force to convert people. They’ve attacked mosques, killed Imams, district heads, and even my own brothers," he lamented.
El-Kanemi reiterated his resolve to help in the fight against terrorism, saying, as the first class traditional ruler in the North to be targeted by a suicide bomber, he would support any process that would restore peace, harmony and unity to his over 1,200 year-old kingdom in particular and Nigeria in general.
He expressed optimism that Boko Haram would fail just as Maitatsine failed in the 1980s.
Also speaking, the governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson warned the political class and religious leaders to refrain from making comments that would inflame passions in the face of current security challenges in the country, while urging political and religious leaders to take steps that would reflect support and empathy for the security agencies, instead of capitalising on the situation to score cheap political points.
Recently, report surfaced that district heads were in fear that they might be attacked by the terrorist following the  recent killing of the Emir of Gwoza in Borno State, Alhaji Idrisa Timta who was ambushed on his way to attend the burial of the Emir of Gombe, Shehu Abubakar.

Saraki Cautions President Jonathan Against 2015 Election

Dr. Bukola Saraki, the former governor of Kwara State on Sunday, said President Goodluck Jonathan should live up to the expectation of the citizens if not he might lose his re-election bid come 2015.
Dr Bukola Saraki
Dr. Bukola Saraki
Saraki, who is a serving senator, and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress,APC made the assertion in a reaction to the just concluded Ekiti State governorship election where the incumbent governor, Fayemi Kayode of the APC, was defeated by the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ayodele Fayose.
He said the Ekiti State election was a signal that President Jonathan could lose re-election in 2015 if he fail to do the will of the people. He described Fayose’s victory as a triumph for democracy and the people of the state.
“It is important that around the clock, people want to be engaged. This should also serve as a lesson to Mr. President that as an incumbent it is very possible to lose in Nigeria if he fails to do the will of the people" he said. “I urge the governor-elect to see this victory as an endorsement of the expectations of Ekiti people for continued dedication to governance and a means for a focused and purposeful leadership.”
Saraki further noted that despite heavy military presence and alleged external intimidation, the poll still recorded a high turnout of over 51 per cent of the electorate who came out to vote for the candidate of their choice. He congratulated Fayose for his victory and also Fayemi for conceding defeat and congratulating Fayose..
“With this show of sportsmanship, it is my belief that other politicians will respect the wishes of the electorate and do the same in future elections to avoid violence and political bickering as demonstrated by the peace-loving people of Ekiti" he said. “I will also like to congratulate the electoral agency, the Independent National Electoral Commission, as it appears the body has shown remarkable improvement. This should also serve as a reminder to every politician in other parts of the country, especially Kwara State, that this is clear indication that Nigerians now know how to differentiate grass root politicians from seasonal politicians.”
In a related development, Dele Belgore (SAN), who is a chieftain of the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, urged Fayose to remember the huge support he got from the people of the state and make sure they were rewarded for their loyalty.
Belgore, who made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye, also noted that Fayose’s victory showed that there was a limit to propaganda, no matter how well-oiled and smoothly delivered.
Ayodele Fayose, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was declared the winner of the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti Stateby the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He scored 203, 090 number of votes to beat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Kayode Fayemi, who scored 120, 433.

"If my husband asks me to stop acting, I will' - Dakore Akande says

Nollywood actress Dakore Akande in a recent interview with Sunday Express said she will only stop acting if her husband asks her to...but even at that, it depends on how he asks.
Dakore said this while denying reports that her father in-law and her husband asked her to stop acting hence her absence from the big screen. Dakore said;
"That was a lie. People just cook up stories from nowhere and some other people will just believe them. They didn't see me for a while and they started peddling rumors about me. I just had to take a break from acting. Something more important came along. I fell in love. I had to give more time to my relationship to make sure I nurtured it away from the public eyes as much as I could. I took an inadvertent break to focus on my relationship. Being a career woman is great and I was lucky to have some success at it. But at the end of the day, family and having a stable, happy home is more important to me and I knew that something would have to give in. At that time, it was my career that had to give in. Nobody told me to stop acting. Not my father-in-law, not my husband
And if they asked her to?
"Of course I will. And that will be my husband. There will have to be a way he will go about that. Yes I will."

Ekiti state election: Why I won - Ayo Fayose explains

Some of you think he won because he gave out bags of rice...:-). No o! It was a free and fair election and even the incumbent governor Kayode Fayemi called Fayose to concede defeat and congratulate him. In a sit down with some journalists yesterday in Ekiti, the Ekiti state governor-elect tells how he managed to defeat a sitting governor
"It is the Lord’s doing. I want to recall that my removal in 2006 remains a mystery to the common man on the streets but they never left me for a day, they believed in me. I want to equally let you know that I was left with the people without money, eight years in the wilderness. My charge to every politician is to target the poor people. They will not come and ask you for contracts, all they want is to have their lives improved, to which they believe I have an answer.
I do things a governor is expected to do. For me, I am a grassroots man and because of the way I operate with them, they call me Senior Advocate of the Masses. So, I want to continue that trend, I want to identify with them continuously. I will not leave them. So, the strategy is, when you are voted into power, don’t forget that 4 years is a short time.
Ayo Fayose, 53, was governor of Ekiti from 29 May 2003 to 16 October 2006. He was removed from office by the Obasanjo administration. He fled the country but returned after Obasanjo left power.

Heroic 13yr old Nigerian boy dies after trying to save a drowning girl

13 year old Ricky Osagie (pictured above, his dad right) from Warrenstown died on Saturday June 21st following a brave attempt to try to save a girl who had got into trouble swimming in a man-made pond at Waterville Hall residential complex in Blanchardstown, Dublin on Friday June 20th.

According to Irish Mirror, a friend of Ricky's, a teenage girl, got into the water and was almost drowning when Ricky and another female friend jumped into the pond to try to save her. The other teen girl who jumped in to help also now had difficulties in the pond, and it was up to Ricky to save both girls. Which he did. Paramedics were called and all three teens were taken to the hospital. The two girls survived, but Ricky died the next day.

Ricky Osagie was a teenage soccer sensation whose dream was to represent Ireland, his distraught father, Kelly Osagie told the Sunday Irish Mirror. He said Ricky was a hero because he knew he was risking his life when he went into the water as he couldn’t swim.
"He was trying to help someone else. That’s what happened. My son died a hero. He went in and then that was it. My son is gone but a girl is alive because of him. He always smiled and was happy all the time. He was such a fantastic footballer. We have trophies everywhere in the house. Ricky was going to play for Ireland, that’s what he said he was going to do. He had so many friends. He is a hero, a real hero. I want the world to know what my son did. He was a man.”
He really is a hero! Rest in peace 'lil man. Such a sad story!

Suicide bomber kills 3 soldiers in Borno, Boko Haram kills 40 in new attack

Three soldiers were reportedly killed yesterday June 22nd after a suicide bomber suspected to be from the Boko Haram sect attacked a military post near a Secondary school in Gwoza, Borno state.

Vanguard reports the suicide bomber drove through Wala and Warabe villages before getting to the military post where the bomb detonated and a loud sound immediately followed, with the vehicle the suicide bomber rode in and other things in the attack scene destroyed.

One of the residents of the area, Mallam Usman Yaro who spoke with Vanguard said residents of the area were still asleep when the bomb detonated. Continue..
"We were woken up with a bomb blast on the road near the school, some of us started to run for safety while others fled into the school and hill tops of Gwoza. I cannot tell you the exact casualties but three soldiers fell on the road side while others took to their heels for safety, as the car that contained explosives ripped into pieces to create a deep crater near the post. None of the civilians was killed as people were still asleep when the suicide bomber detonated the explosives that killed him and three soldiers.”
In a related development, suspected Boko Haram men over the weekend attacked Chuha A Chuha B and Korongilim villages in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, killing 40 people including teenagers. According to one of the community leaders, Mallam Yakubu Joshua, the attack which lasted 5 hours, started 7am
"Some suspected Boko Haram terrorists invaded Chuha A, Chuha B and Korongilim villages of Chibok council of Borno State and killed over 40 persons. The terrorists injured many other villagers, burnt many houses and made away with our foodstuff. The attack, which commenced at 7a.m. yesterday lasted over five hours before military intervened. I and some other residents of Chibok had made several telephone calls to the military, unfortunately they (military) only started bombing the surrounding area of the attack after over 40 members of our community had been killed. The lifeless bodies of our people are still littered in the three villages as I speak, but our present fear is that many innocent villagers may be hit by the ongoing bombings by the military.” he said

Photo: 60-year old Nigerian woman gives birth through IVF

60 year old Mrs Omolara Irurhe (pictured above) who had been looking of a child for over 30 years reportedly gave birth to a baby girl this past Monday June 16th through the Invitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment at a Specialist Hospital in Lagos.

The Nation reports that Mrs Irurhe, who has been married for 31 years, started the IVF treatment in 2010 and said her faith in God and her believe in modern medicine helped her go through the process, after many years of childlessness in marriage. She said her husband, Mr Adekunle Irurhe's Catholic belief of one man one wife made him not to marry another woman and stood by her through all the years.
"I believe we should not limit God and what the doctors can do in this modern age. I believe this is the appointed time. I was very hopeful throughout the years I was childless and I remained focused on God. We went to many hospitals but we didn’t give up,” she said

An elated Mr Adekunle Irurhe said though there were pressures to get another wife, he was determined to stay with his wife alone as that was the practice of his own parents. He said his wife's belief in the In vitro fertilization method made him support her.
"I supported her throughout because my wife was dogged and she believed in herself. When I saw her faith, I had no choice but to go with her. She kept telling me she would have her child. I wasn’t thinking of another wife. I came from a monogamous family and I decided she is all I will have. The family was understanding too and we fought together to get this baby".
Mrs Irurhe has made history as the oldest woman in Africa to give birth to a child via Invitro Fertilization.
